Wanderburg Early Access — Current Status & Changes
Wanderburg is in Early Access on Steam after its September 8, 2026 launch. The Demo was retired, and the latest collected official note is the dated 0.9.10 Hotfix, so current answers need to separate launch facts from patch-specific changes.

Early Access launch state
Wanderburg released into Early Access on September 8, 2026. The official launch announcement says the game changed substantially since playtests and that the Demo was retired because it no longer represents EA. That announcement is the current availability boundary in the collected evidence.
The current store description frames the live product as a fully playable core loop with a mobile castle, different biomes and multiple difficulty levels. It also describes consuming villages and fortresses, expanding the castle and experimenting with builds. Modules, Vehicles, Artifacts and Captains are listed as between-run progression layers.
0.9.6 Hotfix: world and difficulty changes
The official 0.9.6 Hotfix notes add health pickups to Grassland 1 and adjust enemy compositions in Grassland 3 and Dark Forest 2 and 3. The same note fixes an Overworld collider issue that could allow the castle to teleport outside the map. These are dated changes, not a complete description of every current encounter.
Dark Tower Difficulty 1 health is listed as changing from 12,000 to 10,000. Treat that as a patch-note fact tied to 0.9.6. It is not evidence for a universal difficulty ranking, a current speedrun route or a promise that every player will find the encounter easy.
- Grassland 1: health pickups added and multiplier slightly reduced.
- Grassland 3 and Dark Forest 2–3: enemy compositions adjusted.
- Dark Tower Difficulty 1: health changed from 12,000 to 10,000.
- Overworld: collider and out-of-map teleport protection fixed.
0.9.6 Hotfix: balance, performance and controls
The same official note reduces Top Mortar projectile count and adjusts the Grassland 1 Tier 3 Enemy Spawner, Back Turret and Tankbert. It also increases Fire Mage Firestorm damage and improves Ground Fire performance. No broader numeric build ranking is established by those changes.
The statistics overlay was removed and the Stats keyboard shortcut changed from Alt to Ctrl. That is a useful control fact for anyone carrying old notes into EA. The note does not establish a universal best Module, Captain or vehicle choice.
- Balance: Top Mortar, Enemy Spawner, Back Turret and Tankbert adjusted.
- Fire Mage Firestorm damage increased.
- Ground Fire performance improved.
- Stats shortcut changed from Alt to Ctrl.
0.9.8 Hotfix: Mortar, Ram and crash options
The official 0.9.8 note fixes inconsistent Ram damage, adds an alternative controller driving style, delays Nitro regeneration by 0.5 seconds after a boost, and buffs Overtime Mortar with faster constant projectile flight. These are dated mechanics and balance changes, not a promise that an old build order remains strong.
The same note says the Graphics API mode changed and presents launch options for crashes. The attached official image shows “Play Wanderburg”, “Play DX12 - use when game crashes” and “Play Vulkan - use with AMD GPUs”. Treat that image as a dated UI clue: use an option only if it is available in the installed version, test one variable at a time, and do not call it a universal fix.
- Ram damage fix and alternative controller driving style.
- Nitro regeneration starts 0.5 seconds after boost.
- Overtime Mortar receives faster constant projectile flight.
- Graphics API mode and crash launch options changed.
0.9.9 Hotfix: modules, vehicles and rewards
The official 0.9.9 note fixes Front Barracks diminishing-damage upgrades, buffs its active ability, nerfs Side Ballista auto attack and buffs its active ability. It also makes allied melee units move faster, adjusts Tower and Spider driving behavior, and nerfs Spider speed upgrades. Check these changes before copying an older build recommendation.
The same note fixes the First Win and All Biomes Won achievements and makes boss tombstones collectible for silver. These are confirmed dated changes, but they do not publish a complete unlock tree, reward economy or current tier list.
- Front Barracks diminishing-damage and active-ability changes.
- Side Ballista auto attack reduced and active ability strengthened.
- Allied melee movement and Spider driving changes.
- First Win and All Biomes Won fixes; boss tombstones now drop silver.
0.9.10 Hotfix: current comparison boundary
The latest official 0.9.10 note reduces Back Turret maximum attack-speed scaling and increases Side Arm rarity-based damage for both its active ability and auto attacks. It also fixes a Rare Artifact screen softlock, prevents Electric Mage from stunning allied units and makes Electric Arrow Artifact triggers more reliable.
Progression now grants one New Module Reroll for every six unlocked Modules and one Artifact Reroll for every six unlocked Artifacts. Captain penalties were also reduced for PatchyThePirate, Kapitalstus Maximus, Huntress, Tankbert and Duelist. Use these notes as the current dated boundary, not as evidence for a universal best Captain or build.
- Back Turret maximum attack-speed boost reduced.
- Side Arm rarity-based active and automatic damage increased.
- Every six unlocked Modules or Artifacts grants an additional reroll of the matching type.
- Several Captain penalties reduced.
EA launch recap: what is still changing?
In its September 11 recap, the official team reported more than 150,000 copies picked up in the first three days, more than 800 streamers, and a peak of 9.9K players online at once on the previous day. These are dated developer-reported launch observations, not a live player-count metric or a permanent demand estimate.
The same recap says performance is not where the developers want it yet and that feedback is shaping future features, adjustments and meta progression. That supports keeping crash and balance guidance version-aware; it does not support inventing a current fix, roadmap date or final meta.
How to use the current store description
Use the live Steam page to answer what the game is and how the current run is framed. Its confirmed loop is movement with a mobile castle, consumption of villages and fortresses, castle expansion and modular build experimentation. Its public description also names biomes, difficulty levels and between-run systems.
Do not stretch that description into details it does not publish. Exact costs, complete unlock order, Captain passives, Module values and encounter routes remain To be confirmed unless a current official note or live UI check supports them. This keeps the EA page useful without making a temporary claim look permanent.
What changed for Demo-era advice
The Demo is a historical boundary because the official launch post says it was retired when it no longer represented the EA game. A pre-launch guide can still show what the test build contained, but it cannot override the current EA status. Mark its date before using any statement from it.
The old Demo listing recorded a February 23, 2026 release, a free Demo and support for mouse, keyboard and controller input on Windows. Those are historical Demo facts. They should not be presented as a separate current download path or as a complete EA requirements statement.
How the hotfix affects practical decisions
If you are following an older route, first check whether it depends on the areas named by the hotfix. Grassland 1 health pickups, enemy composition changes and the Dark Tower health note can change how a run feels at that dated version. The Overworld collider fix also removes one reported map-boundary problem from the old note.
If a strategy still works after the patch, that is a current-run observation rather than a guaranteed meta rule. Record the version, the visible options and the failure condition before calling a route reliable. Any unmeasured performance result or exact interaction stays To be confirmed.
What the performance note does and does not prove
The hotfix explicitly says Ground Fire performance improved. That confirms a targeted change in the official note. It does not publish frame rates, hardware comparisons, loading times or a general performance guarantee for every PC.
For hardware questions, use the separate Performance page and keep its requirements tied to the official published baseline. Do not combine a patch note about one effect with an invented overall benchmark. Current results across hardware are To be confirmed.
What the control change means
The 0.9.6 note says the statistics overlay was removed and the Stats shortcut changed from Alt to Ctrl. Players carrying over an earlier note should therefore try the newer shortcut in the current build. This is a small change, but it is exactly the kind of version detail that makes old instructions confusing.
Keep the control statement limited to what the note confirms. The collected evidence does not provide a full current keyboard map, controller layout or accessibility audit. Those details are To be confirmed until the live settings UI is checked.
What still needs confirmation
The public evidence does not provide a complete changelog from Demo to EA. It also does not establish a permanent tier list, exact Captain roster, full Module stats, universal build order or current player-count figure. Those topics remain outside this page’s confirmed answer.
The correct update trigger is a newer official Steam News post, a dated official store change or a current hands-on verification. When one appears, update the claim with its version and source instead of silently replacing the old wording. Until then, label the missing detail To be confirmed.
The short current answer
Wanderburg is live in Steam Early Access from September 8, 2026, and its Demo was retired. The official 0.9.10 note is the latest collected patch boundary, while 0.9.8 and 0.9.9 provide dated context for Mortar, build, control, stability and reward changes.
Everything beyond that boundary should carry a source date. Use the patch note for the listed changes, the store for the broad product frame and a current UI check for precise systems. If no such evidence exists, write To be confirmed rather than guessing.
Check linked sources and dates before relying on version-sensitive advice.
